About Judge Yourself
Last updated 11/10/2026
Judge Yourself helps candidates for judicial office prepare for the exercises in a Judicial Appointments Commission selection day. It is made by Lextrapolate Limited. It is being built now and will open by invitation for a small pilot; this page describes how it will work.
How it works
- Choose your role. We set up the exercises its selection day usually includes, with the published timings. You can change them to match your vacancy page.
- If you wish, upload your own application and self-assessment. You review the text we read before anything is analysed. You get written feedback on gaps and on examples worth expanding, and we prepare an interview plan that stays hidden until after your practice interview.
- Practise. In a role play you are the judge and the parties are played for you, by voice or in text. In an interview a three-member panel asks, follows up and probes.
- Read your report. A practice grade for each skill, quotations from your session that support it, one priority point with a demonstration, and every other point briefly.
Where the material comes from
The scenarios are original. They follow patterns described in the JAC’s published guidance and in its reports on past selection exercises, and in the judiciary’s published guidance, including its guidance on the use of artificial intelligence. Where a scenario uses an invented jurisdiction, its rules are supplied in the papers, as they often are on the day.
No scenario reproduces a JAC exercise, and Judge Yourself never uses JAC selection material. If you have been sent material for a selection exercise, do not upload it.
Accessibility
Every exercise can be done in text as well as by voice. Captions are on by default. You can ask for extra reading time and slower speech, as you might ask the JAC for reasonable adjustments.
What this is, and what it is not
Judge Yourself is a practice tool made by Lextrapolate Limited. Its role plays, situational questions and interviews are simulations based on published JAC guidance and on reports of past selection exercises. They do not predict what any future exercise will contain, and the grades are a practice indication, not a forecast of any decision. How you prepare and how you perform are your own responsibility. Judge Yourself is independent of the Judicial Appointments Commission and the judiciary, and is not endorsed by or associated with either.
The JAC's guidance on artificial intelligence applies to you. Use Judge Yourself to practise and to get feedback on writing that is your own. It will not write or rewrite your examples. Never upload JAC selection material (pre-reading, scenarios, test or selection-day papers), and never use Judge Yourself during a test, selection day or interview.
Read the JAC’s own guidance on artificial intelligence (opens in a new tab).
